Mission

Let's Get It Started: Team Rad is a boisterous, unruly arts publication that aims to present art in a framework that makes it more accessible and fun to a broad audience. Refraining from the aloof academic take of established art publications, Team Rad looks at art from a new vantage point, taking artist and artwork off the pedestal. Our goal is to take art seriously without self-seriousness. Instead of analyzing the work and elevating the artist, we want to find out how they got started and what excites them to keep turning it out. With regular features devoted to exploring art behind the scenes, sections like "How They Met" (which will chronicle how a duo or group working on something creatively got their start), "Art Space" (an inside look into an artist's apartment and an account of how they live and work), and "Sketchbook" (a look at artists sketchbooks and notepad margins), will take a sneak peek into the creative process.

Casting a Wide Net: At Team Rad we take an expansive view of art. Covering amazing and strange events and projects of all kinds, we'll focus on what it was that sparked Hell Mary to create a competitive all-girl roller derby, Stan Meserve to lead a dump parade, or Adam K. to start a blog devoted to pizza. We see art in all aspects of life and relish the moments when everyday life turns into art.

We Aim to Inspire: We're displaying these inner workings, these moments of divine inspiration, happy accidents, or instants of temporary insanity to remove the artifice, the aura, and show that anyone can take an idea and turn it into something awe-inspiring.

Show Us What You've Got: We want everyone to be a part of the Team, so the website will have areas that invite readers to get involved. They'll be able to submit their own work to be posted, send in old photos to be recreated in our "Tribute Album" section, and enter and participate in creative competitions. We encourage everyone with an interest in art to partake in the discussion, making, and appreciation of art in all forms. By participating in these activities readers themselves become the subject and content of our website, using it as a forum to carry out their own enthusiasm to make things happen.

Call to Action: Our battle-cry   "Let's Get Awesome!" is a slogan that captures the participatory and democratic ethos of the magazine and it's creators -- a motto instigating it's readers to get out there and do something themselves. To make art. To create. To Get Awesome.
